“EmpowerED Leaders” Initiative

A request and suggestion from a client school prompted reflection, collaboration, and planning that has resulted in the soon-to-launch EmpowerED Leaders* initiative.

The Challenge: Schools are increasingly promoting teachers to leadership positions before they have received training or developed the requisite leadership and management competencies.  This practice is often due to a dearth of qualified and competent internal or external prospects. It also results from recognition of the individual’s perceived potential combined with their commitment to the school and its mission.

These emerging leaders’ need for developing competency and receiving support (coaching and mentoring) exceeds their supervisors’ time availability and capacity, leaving the emerging leader underprepared and needing additional support to survive and experience success in the leadership role!

The Response: EmpowerED Leaders is designed to provide a mix of organic and structured support and content delivered by experienced school leaders, designed to help emerging school leaders face the challenge and succeed in the crucible of leadership, to provide support in a process of professional growth, and to lay a foundation and encourage future formal study in school leadership.

The EmpowerED Leaders initiative is in the final planning stages and will be launched for enrollment during July of 2024, with the program expected to begin in October.  School leaders interested in EmpowerED Leaders for themselves or for an emerging leader in your school are encouraged to contact me for more information ([email protected]).
