Dr. Mason has extensive experience in security and emergency management. He is a retired
US Army officer who served in world-wide assignments including South Korea, Bolivia, and Ecuador. Since his retirement from the Army, he served in several positions, including the Director for the Personnel Recovery Center- Ecuador at the American Embassy in Quito and was the Microsoft Corporation’s America’s Region Resilience Manager. He has been a security and emergency management consultant for schools, universities, and in the mining and oil sector. He is a board member of the University of Florida’s Spanish and Portuguese Studies Department’s External Advisory Board.
He holds a BA from Wake Forest University, an MA in Latin American Studies and Political Science from the University of Florida, a graduate certificate in Homeland Security and Defense from Penn State, and a Doctorate in Education in Organizational Leadership from Pepperdine University.

John deeply believes that all children should be able to study, learn, and grow in a safe and secure environment and to that end he believes that all stakeholders (parents, staff, faculty, and the community) need to be involved.
John divides his time between New York City and Quito, Ecuador with his wife, Rocío. They have two sons, both living in New York.
