Dr. Karen Wrobbel is an educator, administrator, author, and consultant with extensive experience in international education and working with globally mobile families. Her early career included work as a teacher and administrator in international Christian schools, followed by service as the worldwide children’s education coordinator for a global non-governmental agency. She has resided in Spain, Venezuela, and Costa Rica, and speaks Spanish fluently.
Wrobbel’s 2021 book, The Globally Mobile Family’s Guide to Educating Children Overseas (Wipf and Stock) joins her professional and personal experience with serious research to provide this essential guide for international families. Karen’s interests and expertise extends beyond the education of globally mobile kids. She enjoys the accreditation process and has served on and chaired numerous peer review teams for the Association of Christian School, International (ACSI), including joint visits with WASC, Cognia, and the Middle States Association. She has also supported schools as they prepared their self-study and evidence. Karen believes that having an external reviewer before submitting the reports to the accreditor and visiting team can help promote the most positive outcome for a school. Currently, Wrobbel’s full time position is Dean of Trinity College and Trinity Graduate School, at Trinity International University (Deerfield, Illinois, USA). In addition to her consulting work with the GLOBAL School Consulting Group, she is a member of the board for PACE (The Professional Association of Cross-Cultural Consultants in Education) and an associate staff member of SHARE Education Services, a group that helps families with their educational needs. Dr. Wrobbel earned her EdD in educational policy and administration from the University of Minnesota (Twin Cities), her MA in educational ministries from Wheaton College Graduate School (IL), and her BA in liberal studies from Biola University. Her doctoral research focused on the experiences of missionary kids in host country schools, and provided policy recommendations for parents as well as for the companies and agencies that place families internationally. Dr. Wrobbel’s master’s level research examined the psychosocial development of adults who were raised globally.
