Dr. Sofía Amador is an experienced educator and consultant in K-12 education in Costa Rica and Latin America. She has also been a founding member and Board of Director member for several non-profit and Christian organizations. She holds a BA in English, a BA in Teaching English as a Foreign Language from the University of Costa Rica, a master’s degree in Education and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Framingham State University in Massachusetts and a Doctorate in Education from La Salle University in Costa Rica.
Throughout her career, Dr. Amador has made her mission to help faculty and administrators develop their leadership roles and empower them into adopting effective teaching practices in support of student success. She has taken advantage of the various positions she has held as Curriculum & Accreditation Director, Principal, and General Director to become an influential leader and an agent of change among the people she works with. Sofía strongly believes that to prepare the student of the 21st Century, schools and leaders must build networks of collaboration and service. Her strong belief in service and collaboration motivated her to become an accreditation team member. She has participated in Review Teams for Colombia, México, Ecuador, El Salvador, Egypt, Honduras, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Spain, United States, and Venezuela and Costa Rica. These experiences have provided her with a solid background in the areas of teaching and learning, leadership and strategic planning, as well as a range of strategies to help schools successfully implement their continuous improvement journey.
Currently, Dr. Amador leads international accreditation reviews. In this position, she oversees schools’ continuous improvement processes and coaches staff throughout the review process. Sofía lives in Heredia, Costa Rica, with her husband Alex. They have four adult children with one living in Costa Rica, one in Malta and two in the United States.
