The Immeasurable Value of School Accreditation

A member of an accreditation team I led this week prompted some reflection – “How many schools have you visited on accreditation teams during your career,” he asked. I couldn’t calculate the exact number and would choose not to reveal it even if I could.  I did identify six accrediting agencies I’ve worked with multiple times over the years.  The question caused me to consider why I accept invitations every year to lead accreditation teams.

This visit was to a large national Christian school in Indonesia.  During the exit report, I reminded the school leaders and stakeholders that the role of the team included assessing the school’s operation “in light of its stated mission and vision.”

That’s the reason I participate in accreditation visits! The immeasurable value of accreditation is that the process encourages and supports schools in their ongoing journey toward mission fulfillment – delivering on their value proposition and impacting the lives of children, families, communities, and nations around the globe.
